A full confession was made by Jenkins in the cells previous to his execution, from which it appears, that the person of Doctor Wardell was known to him at the time he shot him, and that not satisfied with discharging the contents of his piece at him, he pursued him, and when the unfortunate gentleman fell exhausted from his horse, from loss of blood, he struck him with the butt end of his piece, and a short struggle took place between them. This accounts for the breast of the Doctor's coat being torn. The reason he alleged for committing the atrocious deed was, that the Doctor was a tyrant. A very spirited lithographic likeness has been produced by Mr. Austin, which was taken in the Court at the moment Jenkins was putting a question to one of the witnesses called on his behalf.[The Sydney Times, 14 November 1834, page 2, column 5].
