Lily Allport
As former Librarian of the Allport Library and Museum of Fine Arts Marian Jamerson was in an ideal position to write this biography of Lily Allport. One of the lesser-known members of the Allport family, Lilly was both an accomplished painter and printmaker. When a teacher in London, she produced a series of lithographs, of both portraits and decorative compositions. She also experimented in printing in colour in several views of children playing on the beach. On her return to Tasmania she specialised in linocut printing, producing images of local buildings, nature studies and genre subjects. There were also some prints based on drawings made in Europe. With Betty Hood she established The Bolt Press to publish these works. The book includes a detailed list of her exhibitions giving a list of the works exhibited in each. This is a valuable resource and will help determine the date of many of the undated prints.
