Abstract

In association with the 2007 Adelaide Film Festival, Experimenta Vanishing Point will be showing for the first time in Adelaide at the Art Gallery of South Australia from 16 February to 10 March 2007.

The highly popular interactive media artworks in Experimenta Vanishing Point transform the banal reality of daily life into fantastic moments of extraordinary wonder. Featuring miniature worlds, journeys through space and time, and photographs that come to life, this is an exhibition of artworks that you can touch, play with; art like you’ve never experienced before.

Inspired by twisted realities such as Alice in Wonderland and Being John Malkovich, Experimenta Vanishing Point will transport you to fantastic wonderlands by shifting your perspective on the world around you. The exhibition showcases the work of Australian and international digital media artists, filmmakers, scientists, video artists, animators, and sound artists working at the forefront of new media art.

Artists featured are; Narinda Reeders, David MacLeod (Australia), June Bum Park (Korea), Shaun Gladwell (Australia), Daniel Crooks (Australia), Minim++ (Japan), Grant Stevens (Australia), Julie C.Fortier (France), Willam Wegman(USA), Penny Cain (Australia).

The exhibition will feature audience favourites such as I Parking and III Crossing (June Bum Park, South Korea), video works in which a car park and a traffic intersection are transformed into play worlds for a giant’s hands; a breakdancer in Pataphysical Man (Shaun Gladwell) spins from the ceiling in defiance of gravity and The Shy Picture (David MacLeod and Narinda Reeders) which appears to be a small photograph hanging quietly on the gallery wall, but gets stage fright if anyone attempts to approach it.
