Abstract

Jirrawun Editions represents the Darwin launch of a powerful series of etchings by major Kimberley artists Paddy Bedford (dec), Rammey Ramsey, Freddie Timms, Rusty Peters and Phyllis Thomas.

Sparse in composition and bold in form and colour, this compelling series of etchings depict significant sites in the artist’s country and their ancestral stories, as well as narratives from the artists own lifetimes. Created during a series of printmaking workshops held with the artists in 2004-05, these works were produced in collaboration with printmakers Leon Stainer and Dian Darmansjah at Northern Editions, Charles Darwin University.

An exciting addition to this exhibition is a preview of five etchings by Rammey Ramsey produced at Northern Editions in 2005, and proofed in 2008. Reminiscent of the gestural works of Modernism, these prints are fresh and vibrant statements of the artist’s work and show a clear and confident development in Rammey Ramsey’s approach.

All artwork by the late Paddy Bedford has been made available courtesy of the artist's estate. [Gallery media, 2009].
