Abstract

This exhibition surveys the work of David Rankin from 1967 to 2004 with works drawn from the artist’s studio, private and public collections. Works include paintings, drawings and work on paper.

This large body of work offers the viewer a rare opportunity to develop an understanding of Rankin's visual vocabulary and to contemplate the journey of one artist in his search for truth through creative expression. Throughout his career Rankin has been inspired by the physical landscape, philosophical thought and poetry. This exhibition reveals the sources of his imagery, ranging from his perceptions of the landscape, with a significant focus on the desert environment, to his response to the resounding and world-changing tragedies of the 20th century.
