Abstract
Splash: Ink and water. From the Margaret Carnegie Print Collection
Feeling a bit hot this summer? Swim over to the Wagga Wagga Art Gallery for the perfect place to cool down, and view the latest exhibition of prints from our collection – Splash: Ink and water! Featuring works by many of Australia’s most acclaimed artists and master printers, Splash explores the world of water from coastal beaches and urban harbours, to bushland creeks and streams. Aquatic wildlife are also on display – fish, frogs and even a few crocodiles for that extra shiver.
Splash: Ink and water features prints by renowned Australian artists such as John Olsen, Fred Williams and Lloyd Rees, alongside master printers including Jörg Schmeisser, Michael Kempson and Annie Franklin. Indigenous experiences of Australia’s waters are also showcased, in works by artists from across the country like Treahna Hamm, Banduk Marika and Rusty Peters.
All the works on display in Splash are drawn from Wagga Wagga Art Gallery’s own Margaret Carnegie Print Collection, which represents a broad and vivid survey of this fascinating artform over the past four decades. A mix of old favourites from the collection are hung beside new acquisitions unveiled by the first time – including two brand new donations by the Friends of the Wagga Wagga Art Gallery, Ruby Alderton’s Yathiny and Bill Moseley’s Angry Penguins.
