Abstract

The works in this exhibition explore the development of Duxbury's ongoing investigation into atmospheric phenomena through painting, printmaking, and photography, in the context of her longstanding engagement with the work of English artist John Constable (1776-1837).

Duxbury’s interest in her relationship to the weather in turn initiated an ongoing investigation of the early years of the nineteenth century, when both artists and scientists focused on the changing atmospheric conditions they observed.

Visitors to the exhibition will also see a work by John Constable, Clouds, 1822, on loan from the National Gallery of Victoria. John Constable was among a number of artists who mused on the variations of clouds, not only their forms but also their effects and shadows cast on the landscape below them. [Gallery publicity]
