Biography

Maurice Carter

Maurice Carter, born in 1920, was a friend of Noel Counihan, and after the publication of the latter's folio of linocuts, The Coal Miners, he was encouraged to try this technique. He lived in South Melbourne and the five linocuts he published in 1949 under the title of Our Street show a social awareness of life in that suburb. The linocuts were printed on James Flett's press. Another linocut was published in Eureka, Melbourne 1953. He died in 1965.
