Biography
Although the Sheridan Textiles name has been used from 1978 for the textile division of Sheridan Australia, the business has origins as far back as 1939 since it was formed as a result of the successive mergers and takeovers of the original Sydney firm of Silk & Textile Printers. In 1966 Silk & Textile Printers merged with Tennyson Textiles and a group known as Universal Textiles (Australia) Ltd. U.T.A. was formed, producing fabrics for both local and overseas markets. U.T.A. was taken over by Dunlop Australia Limited in June 1969 and in 1978 the company became specialized in the production of domestic bed linen products, soon after adopting the current name Sheridan Textiles, although this name had been used for some products from at least 1969. The mill at Hobart is concerned with the production and printing of the fabrics and making up of most of the Sheridan range. The quilted top of bed products are made up in Sydney.
