Biography
At age eighteen Margaret Vickery joined the Commonwealth Bank where she met and later married Peter Dredge. Her art training began in the mid 1950s with Inez Hutchinson in Melbourne. In 1958 she joined the Beaumaris Art Group, where she later taught. In 1961 she joined the Contemporary Artists Society and the Melbourne Contemporary Artists group. In 1959 she took art classes with Australian abstract painter/printmaker Robert Grieve who encouraged her move more to abstraction. She also began teaching from her home studio in Beaumaris and later (1970s?) produced etchings at Bill Young’s studio. Dredge studied etching with Bill Young, Maggie May, Geoffrey Goldie and John Spooner in the late 1970s.
