Guenter Stein

Guenter Stein was born in Berlin in 1928, and migrated to Australia in 1950. In 1952 and 1953 he studied sculpture at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. He was a friend of Julius Kane and Inge King. As well as sculpture he produced a number of prints, mostly linocuts.

In 1956 he began work with Wynn wines as a commercial artist and is still associated with the company. Since 1959 he has been known as Bill Stevens so as “not to handicap his children with a foreign name.”
