Abstract

The work of 5 innovative South Australian video and new-media artists will be presented as part of the 2005 Adelaide Film Festival in a free exhibition at the Art Gallery of South Australia.

Everyday Addictions features recent individual works in DVD by: James Cochran, Sarah CrowEST, Francesca Da Rimini, James Geurts and Andy Petrusevics.

The works in the exhibition focus on commonplace ‘addictions’ including our daily dependence on television to inform us about our world and to give us cues on how we should respond to significant events. Some also explore our obsession with image and the relentless pursuit of perfection through the ubiquitous ‘extreme make-over’ programs and the growing fixation on our own ‘ spiritual cleansing’.

Video and DVD art continues to grow in stature around the world with many of Australia’s most talented contemporary artists contributing to the genre. The Art Gallery of South Australia is pleased to continue its collaboration with the Adelaide Film Festival, which began with the inaugural festival in 2003. [Gallery media, 2005]
