Remarks

Samuel Phillips, photographer, and Adam Stephan, lithographer, began working on their process in 1884, and in late 1887 formed the company. A Melbourne company was established in June 1889 and a Brisbane branch was also contemplated in that year. The building it occupied by the Melbourne company was destroyed by fire in January 1890.  It is not known how long these various companies existed. Works with advertisments along edges from c.1910 have been seen. It is possible that these are works printed earlier and overprinted.
