Biography

Thomas Wright

One of the more significant jewellers working in Geelong, Thomas Wright arrived in 1853 and worked in William Paterson's Workshop, taking over his business in 1856 when Paterson left. He moved premises in 1858 to 12 Malop Street, Geelong. Initially Wright refers to himself as a goldsmith and later he appears as watch and clockmaker and jeweller. In 1909 he moved to 73 Malop Street, where he continued buiness with his son, Walter, until his death in 1912. Some of his pieces are marked 'WRIGHT', but many are unsigned.
