Elizabeth Hunter, Senior Printmaker with Djumbunji Press will guide participants through the intermediate stages of Intaglio Printing. Participants will need to have completed a beginners course with Djumbunji or be able to demonstrate prior experience. The word ‘Intaglio’ is derived from an Italian term meaning ‘to incise’. The image is created by a layer of ink held in the recesses of the plate. These recesses may be either manually incised or chemically etched through the surface of the plate using a variety of chemicals, techniques and tools. The chemical processes and/or manual means used distinguish the varying processes in Intaglio.

Book Launch: The infinity machine: Mike Parr's performance art, 1971-2005 - Monday, 19 April 2010

The Infinity Machine: Mike Parr's Performance Art, 1971-2005

Book Launch, Art Gallery of New South Wales

Wednesday 28 April 2010, 6-8pm

The Infinity Machine: Mike Parr's Performance Art, 1971-2005 - written by Edward Scheer, in close conversation with Mike Parr - is the first in depth, theoretical account of Mike Parr's performance work.

The book locates Parr's practice as critical to an understanding of his overall contribution to the visual arts in Australia, as well as to distinguish the practice within the history of performance art more broadly. Scheer groups the performances into five distinct phases, focussing on key themes such as agression, duration and theatricality, and moves through key performance projects chronologically.

Scheer's book follows the publication of Mike Parr: Performances, 1971-2008, which was a visual account, using contemporary images, of performances investigated in The Infinity Machine.

Both books are published by Schwartz City, an imprint of Schwartz Media, and designed by John Warwicker, tomato.
